The Tale of Peter Rabbit first appeared in a picture letter written in 1893 by Beatirx Potter for a young family friend and it was published as a book in 1902 by Frederick Warne. Twenty-two other beautifully illustrated books followed; introducing a host of unforgettable characters such as Benjamin Bunny, Squirrel Nutkins, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mr. Jeremy Fisher and many others, all drawn from real animals.
